Pet: None at the moment. Had an owl named Eleanor, but Gyoro wanted to see if she tasted like chicken, and before Ashton and Ururun could stop him...*ahem* Let us merely say that Ashton is in the market for a new pet.
History:
(As a disclaimer, I need to point out that most of the section below is made up, as Ashton's past up until getting the dragons is never referred to at all in either the game or the anime. He is, in fact the only character who receives no backstory whatsoever, aside from being a catastrophically unlucky swordsman out to do good deeds and make a name for himself. They just...didn't get around to putting it in. (Ashton's bad luck at work...?)There's a section of mountains in the game world, however, with a mysterious blank space within them. It's rumored that this where Ashton's hometown was meant to be located. I took this idea and decided to run with it.)
Nearly a thousand years ago, the town of Gollstaine, deep within the mountains of Scotland, was terrorized by an ancient and wicked hag. Fortunately for the village, a witch by the name of Isobel Anchors stood up to the hag, and after a pitched battle, defeated her. With her last breath, the hag cursed Gollstaine to eternal misfortune. Isobel swore that she and her descendants would protect Gollstaine forever, and the hag cursed her and her children and her children's children to share Gollstaine's misfortune, until such a day as her last descendent died, or the village was destroyed.
The village is now a bustling (if somewhat out-of-the-way) town, but the Anchors family still lives up to their ancestor's vow, protecting the town from dangers from without and within. A thousand years of fighting nasty people and things has caused them to develop an extensive repertoire of fighting and magical techniques, particularly a powerful magical fencing style.
The latest scion of the Anchors, Ashton, showed promise at a young age, and like every other member of the Anchors family enrolled in Hogwarts at eleven. His mostly average grades were offset by his natural abilities in Defense Against the Dark Arts (having been trained in physical combat and the theories of magical combat practically from birth), and, oddly, Care of Magical Creatures (being a rather compassionate person).
Ashton seemed destined for a fairly ordinary life (as ordinary as can be expected anyway), until the summer of his third year, when everything changed.
No one had taken the sewerworkers' story seriously and it had been buried deep in the local newspaper, but the Anchors family knew better than to make light of such stories, and Ashton's father investigated, bringing Ashton along to observe.
Ashton and his father somehow became separated in the darkness of the sewers, and shortly thereafter Ashton had the misfortune to stumble upon a sleeping two-headed dragon.
Realizing that if he stayed there he was doomed, Ashton quietly began to sneak away, but unfortunately slipped on a slick spot on the ground and landed face-first, breaking his wand in half.
The commotion this caused caught the attention of the dragons, who woke up and dived for him. Ashton drew his twin short swords and resolved to face his death like a true Anchors...
...when his wand exploded just as the dragons reached him.
When Ashton's father raced to the scene, he found his son, unconscious, with two dragons literally growing out of his back.
Ashton spent the next few weeks in St. Mungo's, where doctors discovered that the dragons' spines, as well as several of their organ systems had literally fused with Ashton's, as though they'd been born connected to each other.
To the shock of his doctors and family, Ashton flatly refused the long and painful surgery that would separate him from the dragons when he learned it would kill them.
Somehow, probably by virtue of fusing with a human, Gyoro ("poppy-" or "fierce-eyed") and Ururun ("weepy-eyed") had become fully intelligent, sentient beings. What's more, Ashton had befriended them, and wasn't about to sacrifice what were essentially two innocent people for his own sake.
His family was actually quite proud of him. His friends, however...
...Well, they been afraid of Gyoro and Ururun from the start, even though Ashton had assured them that the dragons meant them no harm.
When Ashton made it clear that until a solution to his dilemma that didn't kill the dragons was found, Gyoro and Ururun were staying right where they were, he suddenly found himself friendless, abandoned even by the girl he loved.
As his fourth year began, Ashton found himself having to practically start his life over from scratch. Always a serious person before his accident, he became somewhat prone to depression and pessimism. Even his two new best friends were little help.
However, with time and the acceptance of others in Hogwarts, Ashton is slowly beginning to feel better.
Abilities:
Ashton's situation is entirely without its advantages. Ashton has become a great deal stronger, faster and tougher than a normal human (more so than he realizes), although now he eats for three. He is still learning his new limits, and how to combine his new abilities with his life-long training.
Gyoro and Ururun each have exceptionally sharp senses, and are capable of speaking to animals and relaying their speech to Ashton. They're also resistant to certain forms of magic such as stunning spells, and have passed some of this resistance to Ashton.
Gyoro may breathe fire, and Ururun may breathe frost, but only after Ashton drinks a Pepperup Potion or Cooling Concoction respectively.
Personality:
Ashton is a kindhearted, serious, brave, protective, determined, genuine person with a tendency to be somewhat too emotional, shy, unassertive (Gyoro and Ururun can tell you he's a pushover when it comes to people he likes), modest, insecure, and easily flustered. He's also a touch naive and innocent at heart. Because of this, he can seem a bit...odd sometimes. Careful, though, he does have his limits, and some of his buttons (most notably blood purity, family pride, and mind control) are easily pressed.
He's very, very proud of his heritage as an Anchors, loves his family, and tends to think of them a lot. Although he'd never admit it, he's more like his parents than he thinks, having inherited a good dose of his mother's intellect and prying curiousity and his father's stubbornness and temper. The two sides usually cancel each other out...usually.
Normally Ashton prefers to keep his personal problems or negative opinions to himself (not wanting to bother other people), but when particularly angry or upset he tends to forget this. He actually gets a lot more assertive when he loses his temper.
He never forgets a kindness, however, no matter how small, and would never hurt anyone who he sees as having been good to him. Indeed, the concepts of "responsibility" and "fairness" are pretty much hardwired into his head, and can occasionally lead to him doing things that other people would regard as a bit stupid (Gyoro and Ururun being a case in point).
Prior to his accident, he had been so focused on his (now ex-) girlfriend and old friends, and his home situation, that he hadn't really noticed others. In fact, when he's focused on something, he tends to neglect important things (the depression from his utter and final break with his ex- consumed his life, and his search for his lost journal consumed much of his time, for example). He tends to regret this after the fact.
As for the dragons, Gyoro (red) and Ururun (blue) are very much like the left and right sides of the brain, with Gyoro being emotional, creative and hyper, and Ururun being calm, fiercely intelligent, and somewhat sardonic. They have a brotherly relationship, with all the fighting that entails. Not being able to walkaway from each other doesn't really help. Having only recently gained self-awareness, they behave in a remarkably child-like manner at times, even though they're probably older than Ashton.
Gyoro and Ururun are extremely loyal to Ashton (as one might expect) and Ashton is equally loyal to them, so even though the three of them seem hopeless most of the time, they work very well together when they have to.
For all the advantages the dragons give him, though, Ashton would give anything to be normal again (without hurting them).
Relationships:
Gryffindor:
Tifa (Old) - One of the first people to speak to him through the journals, while Ashton was in St Mungo's. Tifa has always been kind to Ashton, and he values her advice and opinions. Character changed -muns.
Chizuru - Shortly after Ashton's ex sold him out to The Quibbler, Chizuru gave him advice about his ex and his post-dragon appearance, and Ashton feels he owes her for that. He doesn't know much about her otherwise. Recently, during the latest gender-switch fiasco, he accidentally walked in on her and Naruto topless, and is still extremely embarrassed and apologetic about it, in spite of her assurances that no harm was done. She also "found" his swords, after Yuffie took them and several other items.
Gon (Old) - Another of the first people to speak to him via the journals, Ashton is very fond of innocent and friendly Gon. Both dragons like him, as well, and Gyoro likes to joke with him by pretending to want to eat his cat. Gyoro's weird. (Character switched -muns.)
Tamaki - Ashton met Tamaki on the train to Hogwarts, and the confident, charismatic young man quickly struck up a friendship with him, accepting Gyoro and Ururun without blinking. It's partly because of Tamaki that Ashton tried out for the Host Club, something he'd normally be too shy to do.
Naruto - Ashton knows Naruto's a bit weird and hyper (like Gyoro), but he doesn't know too much about him. Recently, during a gender-switch fiasco, he walked in on a topless female Naruto and Chizuru, and is still extraordinarily embarrassed and apologetic.
Edward Elric - Seems nice. He offered Ashton ice cream and a sympathetic ear a while ago. (During a period when Ashton was even more depressed than usual, Ed (at the behest of the dragons and his brother) gave the dragons food laced with a cheer-up potion that at least got Ashton out of bed. Ashton doesn't know this yet.) (Dropped character?)
Ravenclaw:
Miyu - Like Chizuru, she gave him sound advice about his ex (and an offer of friendship), and he feels he owes her as well, particualarly after she forgave him for seeing Chizuru in the semi-nude.
Uryuu - Ashton is extremely impressed with Uryuu's sewing skills.
Ayane - Ashton barely knows Ayane, but she seems nice. (Dropped character)
Shigeru - A while ago, Shigeru was turned into a plushie as a result of a failed experiment, and Gyoro and Ururun couldn't help but make fun of him, using Ashton as an unwilling catspaw. Shigeru, at Ashton's suggestion, whipped up a potion which turned Gyoro and Ururun into plushies for a day. Ashton has great respect for Shigeru's intelligence, and definitely knows well enough to stay on his good side.
The dragons? Furious.
Alphonse Elric - The dragons say he owes Al a favor, so Ashton's gonna take their word for it. (When Ashton was too depressed to get out of bed, he got his brother Edward to bring them (and thus Ashton) some food.) (Dropped character?)
Al Heiderich - Sent Ashton some chocolate, though Ashton's not sure why. (The dragons asked him to, when Ashton was super-duper depressed.) (Dropped character?)
Slytherin:
Mugen - Ashton knows Mugen's something of a troublemaker, and he came away from an hour-long sparring match with a great deal of respect for Mugen's skills. That's about it.
Jin - He knows Jin wants to kill Mugen (which disturbs him), and he's surmised that the pair are about equal in skill. That, too, is about it.
Yuffie - At first, Yuffie thought Ashton was insane (she may still, at that), and then he got into an argument with her about the term "Mudblood", and now they seem to be on fairly decent terms. Ashton's not quite sure what to make of her, but he admires her blunt honesty. Recently she stole (and then clandestinely returned) his swords, but he doesn't know she's responsible. Neither dragon is overly fond of her, because she didn't believe they existed (hurts their feelings, don't you know).
Hufflepuff:
Ayumu - A while ago Ashton had to explain to Ayumu that some wizards are prejudiced against those with Muggle blood, but Ayumu decided not to let others' opinions bother her, which impressed self-conscious Ashton. Though she seems like an odd, somewhat naive, likeable girl, Ayumu occasionally says things that make Ashton wonder if she isn't wiser than she acts. Gyoro and Ururun like her, too, and think she's much nicer than mean ol' Ashton. Strangely, Ashton doesn't seem to be aware of her nickname, "Osaka" yet.
Toboe - Ashton met Toboe during the Host Club auditions, and they get along quite well. Shortly afterwards, Ashton helped the poor kid overcome his guilt over his grandmother's death. He's still a bit worried about Toboe, but he's relieved to see that he seems okay. (Dropped character.)
Eiji - He seems like a very cheerful and insightful person, if a bit peculiar. He's certainly good for some interesting conversations.
Teachers:
Miss Yukari - She may be a bit strange, but she seems like a kind person to Ashton, and her advice seems fairly solid, as well.
